Situation
Homecentre needs to add a new pirate range to their kids furniture assortment, as the existing pirate range was outdated and falling short on sales targets.
To bring this theme back to life, we need a bold new take on the pirate theme, focused on ‘finding the treasure’.
The new furniture range needs to be innovative, creative and immerse the children into an imaginary pirate’s realm.
Question
How might we create a full pirate range that captures the essence of the pirate theme with optimized functionality and a bold design language?
This themed bedroom fits into the boys bedroom assortment and targets boys between the ages of 4-10. Studying competitor pirate collections across different markets to differentiate our pirate look.
The pirate furniture range must include 9 SKUs:
bed (hero product)
trundle
nightstand
chest of drawers
mirror
study desk
bookshelf
three-door wardrobe
treasure trunk
Process: I immersed myself in the captivating world of pirates. From the stern to the anchor, I delved into studying every aspect of their ships, capturing the essence of their treasure-filled, rugged, and adventurous lifestyle.
The Little Pirate Range
Infused with intricate details, the pirate’s ship bed is the centerpiece of the collection.
Leveraging design elements incorporated in the bed, I further designed the eight additional bedroom furniture pieces that seamlessly complement the theme.
The Little Pirate Range was paired with household items to complete the furniture collection and create a playfully practical and imaginative experience for young boys to live out in the safety of their bedrooms.
Now, let’s set sail and explore!
